Making the upgrade to Vitreous Enamel

Most times when we’re talking about METTLE, the question we get most frequently is “Is it safe to smoke out of”? The answer is yes! Stainless steel does not impart any toxins or odors when smoking flower. Many older smokers dispute this, not knowing they may have been tasting poor quality metals when smoking in the past, not knowing the melting point for steel is far above what you’ll encounter from your BIC. Despite this, we’ve continued to receive concerns and opinions online that you’re better off with glass. 

While we disagree, we’re now offering enameled versions of METTLE to solve for those concerns and more. You might have enameled products in your home already, likely in your cookware. Le Creuset is probably the most popular or wellk-nown example of household enamelware.  

Technical Specifications:

Stainless Steel does an excellent job of standing up to corrosion already, but the enamel improves stainless’ life span even more. Enameled steel is more resistant to chemicals, acids, the elements, and of course, fire – with the surface being especially more resistant to scratching and abrasion. One of the primary issues people don’t trust with pure stainless is that it will heat up and cool off slowly; enamel solves for this by increasing METTLE’s functional heat resistance, slowing the rate of heat transfer such that it will never get warm enough to be uncomfortable to the touch. 

Improvements to the smoking experience:

Enameled steel has a polished smooth surface like glass, making it easier to wipe clean in addition to being completely immune to absorbing odors.  

Aesthetics:

As classic as it looks, we were immediately frustrated by the lack of additional color and texture options for electropolished Stainless Steel. Thankfully, enamel can be fused in many different colors. We’re planning on offering black, blue, and jade to begin with. Let us know what you’d like to see us offer next!
